How to Edit Corporate Videos for Social Media

Repurposing videos is a great way to get more (social media) bang for your buck!

We often work with corporate video production clients who want to develop a longer video for a large meeting or internal distribution. This content can be a great source for creating social posts.

For social media, we aim to change things up so that the content caters to a broader audience and fits the format of the platform. Here’s a few editing tips we’ve learned as a top Chicago video production company that leads to successfully repurposing corporate video content.

1.     Keep It Short & Hook ‘em Early

With such a wealth of content to consume, social media users have a shorter attention span. It's important to hook them early in the video but don't ask them to stay too long! To do this, we look to trim content down to about 1-2 minutes while keeping the opening engaging enough that viewers won’t swipe away.

2.     Text It, Don’t Say It

Don’t depend on social media viewers being able to listen to content. A lot of “scrollers” peruse social with the volume off in public settings. Adding captions to a video allows users the flexibility to watch in their preferred method.

The text can then easily be translated into another language if a client’s social reaches a more global audience. (Marketing video production is all about being flexible after all!)

Alternatively, adding motion graphic text over previously filmed b-roll or stock footage is another way to communicate a message and repurpose footage or content from previous videos – or even print marketing materials.

3.     Optimize for Different Platforms

As a video production company, we know different social media videos have different requirements. Our blog post “One Size Doesn’t Fit All” goes into this in more depth, but it’s best to remember that vertical video works best for Instagram and TikTok, while traditional horizontal video performs better on Facebook and LinkedIn.
